Day 2 — Idaho to Montana 8 September 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — bluesleepy @ 10:59 pm

Greetings from West Yellowstone, Montana!! Tomorrow is the big day when we get into the park proper. I’m so excited. Grace has been saying all day, “I want to go to Yellowstone!!” Only the way she says it, it comes out “Lello-stone.”

Kurt’s promised to drive tomorrow morning so that I can take photos. And take photos I will.

Today I took 66 photos. Thank God for digital. I would die if I had to go back to film and ration my film. Of course, in a way, film is good because it forces you to wait for that perfect shot. You could very well miss that perfect shot on digital when you’re shooting away and checking your shots in the LCD screen. It’s been known to happen.

But digital suits my trigger-happy personality. “Oooo that’s a cool shot!! Hey, look over there! Wow, how gorgeous!!” And I’ve taken something like 10 shots in less than a minute.

So yes, I am now just outside the Wyoming border in Montana. The slowest internet connection in the world is located at our motel. It’s taken me forever just to check one email account. I think I will wait till tomorrow until I check the others.

At least there is internet access. We don’t even have cell phone coverage right now. Most of the day, my phone’s been in power save as it’s searched for a signal. Good thing we didn’t break down anywhere.

The drive out here has been absolutely gorgeous. Everywhere we looked was more and more beauty.

Just off the beaten path

Like this photo! Kurt needed a restroom break, but we couldn’t find a darn rest area. So he finally gave up and went looking for a gas station. On our way there, we found this little scenic area, and of course I had to take a photo.

It more than made up for our previous attempt at a restroom break. We were promised a gas station on the exit sign, but I had no idea we were going to be presented with THIS:

We ALMOST stopped here for a restroom break

It was mainly just a bar, and it was all things testicular (there go my stats. Hi, Googlers!). I had seen signs on the highway promising Rocky Mountain oysters, but I didn’t think anyone would actually consume such things.

Yuck.

Tomorrow — Yellowstone proper. YAY! Now if only my ear will pop from going over the mountains today…

Beautiful photo of the river and bluff. I’ve heard of the testicle festival before – we have the same thing in northern Arizona now and again. I suppose it’s an acquired taste, so to speak…

In the meantime, glad to hear you’re enjoying your trip. At least if you have to travel cross-country, this is a gorgeous time of year to do it!
