Did you miss me?? 6 March 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — bluesleepy @ 11:27 am

Yes, folks, I am back. I was feeling rather under the weather lately, and now I feel a bit better. I still have this annoying cough thing that I just don’t know what to do with. You know when you have a chest cold, and you feel the congestion in your chest, and when you cough, you can cough some of it up and you feel better for a short time? Yeah, that’s not my problem, though I wish it were. Instead I feel the congestion in my throat itself, and I feel a tickle in the back of my throat to tell me I have to cough. Yet when I do cough, nothing really happens, and I still feel the congestion and the tickle. I just wish I could clear the darn stuff out!

I woke up at 4am this morning unable to do much but cough. I refilled my water bottle and grabbed my cough drops and read for an hour or so, and finally I was able to go back to sleep. But it does suck to be awake in the middle of the night. Yuck.

I do have photos to upload that I want to share, but I am entirely too lazy to grab my camera and go to the desktop to get them off my card. We went on a long walk (1.5 miles!) at a wildlife reserve on Monday after the ultrasound, since Kurt didn’t have to go back to work. Can you tell I am loving this duty station? As long as he’s got a good enough reason, and he’s not teaching that day, he can take half-days off as needed. He just has to make sure he gets his work done. It’s awesome.

So instead of a real entry, you get a meme. Feel free to steal it from me; I stole it from The Purple Chai fair and square!! Make sure you head over to her page to read her answers as well.

MOUTHOLOGY

Q. What is your favorite fast food restaurant? A. While I love a good Whopper with cheese, no onions, there isn’t anything else I like on the Burger King menu. Kurt loves their fries, but I don’t like them at all. My absolutely favorite fast food restaurant would be Wendy’s, definitely, unless you count Subway, and then it would be a close tie.

Q. What is your favorite sit-down restaurant? A. Right now it would be the Newport Tokyo House and Hibachi Grill since I love Japanese food. We also get a very warm greeting each time we go, which is really nice. In general, we try to go someplace other than a chain restaurant, only because I’m tired of their menus. Another favorite, even though we’ve only been there once, is the Brick Alley Pub down in Newport. Ohhh, it was heavenly.

Q. On average, what size tip do you leave at a restaurant? A. I almost always leave 20%. Sometimes I leave 25% if the service has been superb, but I have been known to leave 10% for truly awful service.

Q. What food could you eat every day for two weeks and not get sick of? A. Peanut butter on toast. Of course, that is unrealistic now, so let’s go with pasta.

Q. What are your pizza toppings of choice? A. I love a supreme pizza — pepperoni, sausage, onion, bell pepper, mushrooms, and extra cheese. I also really like a Pizza Margherita, featuring tomato, basil, sliced mozzarella, and extra-virgin olive oil.

Q. What do you like to put on your toast? A. I don’t normally eat toast, but my first choice is peanut butter, but if I can’t have that, then regular butter. I rarely eat jam or jelly on my toast.

TECHNOLOGY

Q. What is your wallpaper on your computer?
A. Kurt’s put this photo on the laptop. The desktop simply has the tropical image that comes with Windows XP.

Q. How many televisions are in your house? A. Two. One in the living room and one in our bedroom.

BIOLOGY

Q. Are you right-handed or left-handed? A. Right

Q. Have you ever had anything removed from your body? A. Two teeth in preparation for braces.

Q. What is the last heavy item you lifted? A. That would have to be Grace. She’s up to 38 pounds now.

Q. Have you ever been knocked unconscious? A. Not that I can recall.

BULL****OLOLY

Q. If it were possible, would you want to know the day you were going to die?
A. No. I would just stress over it immensely, and it would ruin the days I had left on this earth.

Q. If you could change your name, what would you change it to? A. I wouldn’t change my name. The only part of my name I’m not fond of was my maiden name, only because it allowed people to make assumptions about me that weren’t true, and because no one pronounced it right or cared that they pronounced it incorrectly. But once I got married, I took Kurt’s last night and no longer have my maiden name as part of my name.

Q. What color do you think looks best on you? A. I love pink, and I think it’s one of the best colors on me (sorry, Chai!). But I don’t know what looks good on me; I simply wear the colors I like the best.

Q. Have you ever swallowed a non-food item by mistake? A. I chew my fingernails. ‘Nuff said.

Q. Have you ever saved some one’s life? A. I don’t think so.

Q. Has someone ever saved yours? A. My life, thankfully, has never been in peril.

DAREOLOGY

Q. Would you kiss a member of the same sex for $100?
A. I’m not opposed to the kissing, as such, but I’m not a fan of doing such things for money. (I am stealing this directly from Chai because I agree with it wholeheartedly.)

Q. Would you allow one of your little fingers to be cut off for $200,000? A. No. I am fond of each and every one of my fingers. Plus missing a pinky finger would really mess me up with my music and with my typing.

Q. Would you never blog again for $50,000? A. No. It’s what keeps me sane some days, and for me that’s priceless.

Q. Would you pose naked in a magazine for $250,000? A. I don’t think I would. I’m not a prude, and I’m not ashamed of my body, but I just don’t think anyone but people close to me need to see me sans clothing.

Q. Would you drink an entire bottle of hot sauce for $1000? A. I would probably try, as it’s not demeaning, degrading, or injurious to my health.

Q. Would you, without fear of punishment, take a human life for $1,000,000? A. There is no way in hell. You cannot put a price on a human life.

DUMBOLOGY

Q: What is in your left pocket? A: Nothing because I am at home. But I rarely put anything in my left pocket; I usually carry things in my left hand, and if I put my keys into my left pocket, I have to reach around with my right hand to get my keys out. It’s annoying.

Q: Is Napoleon Dynamite actually a good movie? A: I haven’t seen it.

Q: Do you sit or stand in the shower? A: Who sits in the shower, other than old, frail people or people with disabilities? If I’m going to sit, I’m going to take a bath.

Q: Could you live with roommates? A: I probably could, but I have no desire to. I enjoy my own space too much.

Q: How many pairs of flip flops do you own? A: I only own a couple of pairs, but I would like to get a pair of Reef flip-flops for this summer.

Q: Last time you had a run-in with the cops? A: Kurt got a really bullsh*t ticket in Boston the day we went to the zoo. We were on a one-lane, one-way street, and he almost made a left turn but decided against it to continue straight. There was a cop right behind us who pulled us over and gave us a $100 ticket for an improper lane change. He was also a total a**hole about the entire thing as well. I’ve gotten a couple of speeding tickets since I turned 16, but the cops who pulled me over were always really nice about the whole thing. We’re waiting to hear back from the Boston police to go to court to fight this ticket because it really is a bullsh*t ticket. We think we got the ticket because we have Washington plates, and the jerk cop felt we couldn’t fight it.

Q: What do you want to be when you grow up? A: I still haven’t figured that out!

LASTOLOGY

Q: Last Friend you talked to? A: Caroline called me this morning. Poor girl is sick with the flu, as is almost her entire family!

Q: Last person who called you? A: See above.

Q: Last person you saw? A: That would be Grace, whom I’m looking at right this moment.

FAVORITOLOGY

Q: Number? A: My favorite number is 6. I am partial to even numbers over odd, as well.

Q: Season? A: Fall. I love the colors of the leaves and the drastic changes from summer to fall.

CURRENTOLOGY

Q: Missing someone? A: Not really. The phone and the internet really helps when I get lonely.

Q: Mood? A: Awake.

Q: Listening to? A: “Wheel of Fortune” from the Texas State Fair on GSN.

Q: Watching? A: See above.

Q: Worrying about? A: My marriage.

RANDOMOLOGY

Q: First place you went this morning? A: To the bathroom.

Q: What can you not wait to do? A: See my Janets again.

Q: What’s the last movie you saw? A: Pride and Prejudice on PBS as part of Masterpiece Theatre’s The Complete Jane Austen. I’m a wee bit behind. Thank God for DVR.

Q: Do you smile often? A: Yes, I do. I smile when I pass someone in a store, I smile at people in the car, I smile at everyone.

Q: Are you a friendly person? A: Well, I certainly think so. But I am also a shy person, so the friendliness isn’t always so out there. I could sit in a room full of strangers, like in a waiting room, and smile (for me) but never speak until someone speaks to me, and then I will chatter away and make all kinds of conversation. But I can’t start it. (And though this is Chai’s original answer, I am leaving it here because it’s such an accurate depiction of myself. I could not have written it better!)

I’m glad you’re feeling better. I just came down with the same thing on Tuesday. Yuck. If I follow your timeline, though, I should be feeling better for the weekend. 🙂

I love Brick Alley Pub, too. Their lobster bisque is worth every rich calorie.

Sometimes I think that you must be my long-lost little sister. (Although I think I’m old enough to be your mother!)

Jack sits to take a shower but that’s because his prosthesis is not water proof and I sat in the shower when I had knee surgery last year. Other than that…I love to stand in the shower and nothing beats a nice hot shower.

Growing things is pretty easy, and right now is the time to go to Wally world and get started. Buy a couple of those flats and some potting soil, then buy some seeds (Stock smells heavenly, and snapdragons are fun, personally, I love Violas, Johnny jump-ups, and Sweet Williams) and plant them indoors right now. When the weather gets warmer, set your flats out during the day to harden them off, and finally, some time in May or so, plant them in your garden!

If you can afford them, Bearded Irises are gorgeous, and I would plant them in pots so you can take them with you when/if you move. I’ve gotten some really beautiful ones there at Wally World. Also, you might try to plant Clematis and Bleeding hearts back there, I think they would probably do well with the climate. Bleeding hearts start out small, but they can get HUGE! Also, Peonies are beautiful for about a month, but the flowers only last for a while.

I think I’ve planted durn near every type of flower/plant in my garden at one time or another. There is nothing quite as rewarding as seeing a plant that you started as a seed become a perennial, dying back each winter and returning to greet you every spring! Just make sure you mark WHERE they are, so you don’t accidentally “weed” them out!

E-mail me if you need any other advice!

I loved this meme. Something different that’s for sure.

Sorry you’re worrying abour your marriage. I don’t know specifics so all I can say is good luck and **hugs**!

And get Reef flip flops. They’re the best, You won’t believe it but a month or so ago my friend May’s puppy chewed mine up. They were still FINE to wear even if the were a year old! *sobs* and I can’t find those anywhere. I’m thinking of aksing some store to order me a few pairs…yes a few. That’s how much I love them!!

  9. sleepyjane Says:

    Jeez I hate typos…

  10. Elle Says:

Glad you’re feeling a little better, hope the coughing gets more… satisfying soon.
Loved the meme as well, I may have to steal it and carry it over to my place. I am totally with you about the name thing, I had a horrendous maiden name, glad to be rid of it! Oh, and the smiling. I smile at everyone. And then talk to them, sometimes.
